Betting on UFC fights can be a bit confusing if you're new to the gambling scene - but I'm here to break it down and simplify it for you.

There's a lot of money to be made betting on UFC fights, and if you make good bets you can make a few hundred dollars and some excitement to your fight nights.

How UFC betting works

So for a regular UFC fight, you'll see odds that look like this.

  • Chuck Liddell (-175)
  • Tito Ortiz (+145)

Unlike a sport like the NFL that has a point spread, UFC fights have what is called a moneyline.

This moneyline helps to even out the betting action so that the sportsbooks don't get killed when everyone bets on the favorite.

How to bet on the favorite

So in the example above if you wanted to bet on Chuck Liddell at -175 you would bet $1.75 for every $1 dollar you want to win. So if you were to bet $175 on Chuck Liddell and he wins the fight, you'll win $100 (of profit). If you bet $175 on Chuck and he loses the fight, you would lose $175.

Now it doesn't matter how Chuck wins the fight, as long as he wins. It could be via submission, knockout or a decision.

How to bet on the underdog

Now if you want to bet on Tito Ortiz in this fight, you'll be betting on the underdog. At +145, you would have to bet $1 to win $1.45. So if you were to bet $100 on Tito Ortiz and he wins the fight, you'll win $145 (of profit).

If Tito loses the fight you'll only be out the original $100.

How to make big money on UFC fights

Betting on big favorites (-300 or more) is one of the quickest ways to go broke. In a sport like the UFC, you don't want to be risking money on big favorites. If someone is at -300, that means they would need to win that fight 4 out of 4 times for you to make money. And if they went 3-1, you would still lose money.

The best way to make money on the fights is to look for value and bet on the underdogs. Look for underdogs in the +100-+300 range and try to find the fighters that are being overlooked.
